Letter From The Secretary

Dear delegates,

All the participants who work throughout the first season to prepare everything for our first conference are excited to welcome all of you as distinguished delegates. Each one of us has sufficient experience that enables us to make you as ready as possible to overrun the conference with distinction. As teaching you new featured skills is our aim, you will finish the season with a state of satisfaction about yourself, what you have done, and what you have gained.

Finding yourself in a competing community will trigger your eagerness to be the best delegate during the conference. Every delegate is the best as soon as they gain a new skill. STEM MAC is not only a conference that will benefit you on an academic level, considering your opportunity to expand your knowledge and utilize it in engaging debates but it is also your chance to meet new people and create unforgettable memories. Do not miss out on such an experience! Prepare and embolden yourself to engage in world-changing debates as you seize this amazing opportunity to participate.

As my last remarks, I would encourage those who are still hesitant to embark on this journey with us, all of you are welcomed to apply. Do not hesitate if you do not have the experience nor the skills needed in such a conference. We are there to discover and strengthen your hidden talents.

About Model American Congress

555x590

Model Congress is a simulation of a U.S. Congress, participants will write, debate, and vote on legislation while representing the people of their congressional districts.

The Congress of the United States, the nation's lawmaking body, is made up of two houses, the House of Representatives, and the Senate. The main power of Congress, as outlined in the U.S. Constitution, is to make laws that, when signed by the president, become the law of the land, governing American life.

Congress also has the responsibility to determine that public policies are being administered by the government following the law and as efficiently and effectively as possible. Moreover, because Congress is intended to represent the nation's citizens, its members are expected to aid and services to their constituents — the people back home in their states and districts. The news reporting of congressional hearings, debates, and other activities provides citizens with much information about what their government Congress sometimes is required to perform specialized and electoral functions. It acts as a judicial body in the process of impeachment and removal of the president, and it has the power to choose the president and vice-president should no candidate gain most electoral votes following a presidential election.

About STEM Model American Congress

555x590

STEM MAC is the first simulation for American Congress high school in Egypt. It is also the first foremost a teaching institution and the most dynamic model congress simulation available to STEM students.

STEM MAC is dedicated to teaching, inspiring, and connecting students. Our enthusiastic and extensively trained staff is dedicated to creating an informed, intimate, and lively forum for debate about a range of fascinating global topics. From job creation to the fight against international crime, delegates will learn about fascinating and relevant issues while practicing their public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills. By creating a dynamic educational environment, we hope to broaden delegates’ awareness of the world while inspiring them to discover their leadership potential.

Planned, led, and executed by current STEM students who either serve in administrative positions on its Board or who lead a committee during the conference offer delegates the unique opportunity to assume the role of real-life senators, congressmen, and members of special programs to inspire debate, cooperation, and legislation--while also forcing them at the same time to expand their perspectives and to understand the issues at hand in a new, more nuanced way.

Throughout the intensive days of the conference, students will work closely with their committees (judiciary & oversight and reform) to debate and have the opportunity to present their ideas to their peers and learn to compromise to get their legislation to pass.

Our Mission

STEM MAC sets itself apart from other conferences through its commitment to challenging, inspiring, and teaching students. Unlike other conferences, STEM MAC makes students assume the role of real-life congressmen, senators, and members of government, forcing them to expand their perspectives and to understand the issues at hand in a new, more nuanced way. We continue to improve the simulation with all the resources available to us as we strive to guarantee the most accurate and informative experience.

To assist the delegates, our dedicated staff of STEM students researches and writes briefings on each committee topic. Students use these materials and the guidance of our staffers to inspire debate and cooperation.

Each conference delegate will leave with:

  • Confidence and leadership skills
  • Improved public speaking skills and better mastery of English speech making the ability to find common ground among disparate views.

Our Vision

Our vision constitutes helping delegates build valuable, real-world skills such as public speaking, debate, and policy writing. Each student will debate lends urgency, excitement, and drama to the learning of communication skills. These skills–the art of public speaking–are taught not only with the view of winning points but also with the view of standing the student well in any situation where speaking is required. Also, having something worth saying and organized properly breeds the desire and confidence to lead. STEM MAC encourages delegates to be collaborative in their roles, pushing them to work in caucuses and build networks of support throughout the conference. Hoping that they leave with both new knowledge and new friends.

We believe that after the conference, delegates are empowered to use these hard skills to get involved civically back home.

Through the conference, students begin to connect academics with the world around them and, most importantly, begin to get involved and understand the role they can play in changing the world for the better.
